End of Summer Dinner

What a great group!

We always love the Elders

 New sign-up for Fall
Elder and Sister Brown's hearts were buoyed up by these young adults last night as they shared some of the things they learned from our summer classes. It was rewarding to hear some of their take-aways such as "understanding the detrimental affects of comparing ourselves with others," "understanding grieving," and "feeling the pull of the gathering of Israel to the point she decided to fill out her mission papers, a step she never anticipated a few months ago." We have loved working with the young adults in Abilene.

Texans take great pride in the "Texas Skies" and they should. We love 'em too.
We went to an ACU women's soccer scrimmage Saturday night to watch Lox, a new member of our branch who is on the team. We sat next to this cute dog. He was so good. Someone dropped their popcorn behind us and a piece fell on our row just out of reach of this cute dog. He strained and strained at the leash his owner was holding tight but couldn't quite reach the popcorn. Along came a little breeze and I watched in awe as that popcorn was blown right up to the dog's nose! Alma 30:44 "...and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion...do witness there is a Supreme Creator."
Elder Brown sporting his sporty hat at a sporting event! We've learned the Texas sun is hot. Since he can't wear his cowboy hat, this is Norman's next best friend.

"Sister Brown" and I travelled to the Dallas area last weekend as we had training sessions for institute and seminary teachers and coordinators. We also had another uplifting experience attending the temple. For dinner, Karen mentioned that there was a Mediterranean place, and my first thoughts were, "Ok I can probably handle hummus and other dishes swimming in weird tasting sauces and oils--as long as they have some salads that are somewhat normal."

I was able to muster up at least a little enthusiasm for the decision to head to the Andalous Mediterranean Grill in Arlington. There are quite a few dishes to choose from and all of the salads and hummus mixes really looked good.......but buyer beware!  We both went for the amazing rice and then each chose 5 different salads and or hummus types.  For the most part we had very good choices---Karen did actually fall on a couple choices for the ol trick---"that mixed salad looks sooo good and pretty",  and then upon tasting it and realizing it is full of strong weird tasting spices-----feeling your face pucker up with a variety of sweet, sour, bitter, and just plain weird tastes all at the same time! The very best thing of the dinner was the warm freshly baked pita bread that they pulled out of the brick oven right there in front of us and put in our baskets.

Another great experience of having wonderful bread-----helping us to hear and remember the Savior's invitation to partake of the bread of life----we have a very good idea of how wonderful and powerful He is, and how grateful we can feel and be for his divine role and support in our lives.

We are very grateful for the opportunity to serve young single adults here in Abilene Texas. It is very good for us to be here!

The other day we came across this mural that spoke to my heart. We've been in Abilene, Texas for 11 months. When we first got here every...
